Kathryn Bigelow was born on November 27, 1951 in San Carlos, California, U.S. She is an American film director. She is the only child of her parents. Her father was a paint store manager and a librarian.
In her early life, Bigelow entered the cinema and started her creative life as a painter. She studied at the San Francisco Art Institute for two years before winning a prestigious scholarship to the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in 1971. Bigelow entered the graduate film programme at Columbia University, where she studied theory and criticism.
Besides being a director, Bigelow has also modelled for a Gap ad, as well as acting in "Born in Flames". Bigelow was married to fellow director James Cameron from 1989 - 1991.
Bigelow has directed many hit film. She has strated dircting a short film "The Set-Up" (1978). "The Set-Up" is a 20-minute deconstruction of violence in film. Her first feature was a biker movie, "The Loveless" (1982), which she co-directed with Monty Montgomery. Then, she directed "Near Dark" in 1987, which she co-scripted with Eric Red. She is one of the famous film dirctors of America. Some of the genres represented in her wide variety of films include science fiction, action and horror.
