 Julia Roberts: Steals the show from Tom Hanks
The night was celebrated as salute to Oscar winning actor Tom Hanks, but it was another Oscar winning actress Julia Roberts, who stole the show from Hanks.
Tom Hanks received the Chaplin Award in the presence of celebrity friends on April 27, 2009. He was in high spirits where he was honoured with the award by the Lincoln Center Film Society.
At Monday's 36th annual Film Society of Lincoln Center Gala Tribute, Julia Roberts announced, "It's late, and I'm paying my babysitter overtime, and I have to pee". She kept her tribute brief.
Roberts told Hanks, "So, everybody f---ing likes you". The crowd roared with laughter.
Evaluating the movie "The Terminal", in which he played an Eastern European trapped in Immigration at J.F.K., Roberts said, "That movie about you and the airport and the accent was a pass for me. Airport? Were you just an immigrant lost? I didn't know. I love you, but I didn’t know … and I'm wearing the same f---ing dress tonight as your publicist".
As record, Julia Roberts and the publicist both preferred for a cream dress by Dolce & Gabbana.
When his turn came at the podium, the smart Tom Hanks told the stellar crowd that Julia Roberts has so much clout that the big story of the evening would be: "Julia Roberts wears same dress as publicist".
