Jack Nicholson: Tries to get role in Brooks comedy

Jack Nicholson is in negotiation to star in upcoming romantic comedy of James L. Brooks, the filmmaker who directed him in Oscar-winning performances in "Terms of Endearment" and "As Good as It Gets".

Nicholson is in talks to join a cast that already includes Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson.

Written by James L. Brooks, the story involves a professional softball player who's torn between two men, a solid guy played by Rudd and a charming pitcher with a 94-mile-an-hour fastball.

Nicholson is no stranger to Brooks' work.

The project, in development at Columbia Pictures, is expected to start shooting later in June on the East Coast.
