'G-Force' topples 'Harry Potter' at box office
The animated film "G-Force" has toppled "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" as the top film in U.S. and Canadian theaters with $32.2 million in sales, according to studio estimates Sunday.
"G-Force", the Walt Disney release from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, with its mixture of live action and computer-generated animation, is about a band of hero guinea pigs. The story centres on a covert team of highly trained guinea pigs who discover that the fate of the world is in their paws. It features voiceover work from Nicolas Cage, Sam Rockwell, Tracy Morgan and Penelope Cruz as resourceful rodents.
Last week's No. 1 film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" from Warner Bros., came in second with an estimated $30 million.
"The Ugly Truth" from Sony Corp., featuring Katherine Heigl as a romantically-challenged producer seeking love, secured third place at the box office with $27 million.
Horror movie "Orphan" took fourth place with $12.8 million in its first week in theaters.
"Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" slipped down to five from number two. It earned $8.2 million in its fourth week of release.
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen", Michael Bay's sequel to the first Transformers movie in 2007, came in six. It earned $8 million in its fifth week.
"The Hangover", a raucous comedy about the fallout from a Las Vegas bachelor party, took box office seventh spot, earning $6.5 million.
