Calle 13 wins five Latin Grammys in Las Vegas
Puerto Rican duo Calle 13 won all the five awards it was nominated at the Latin Grammys in Las Vegas on Thursday.
Calle 13 won album of the year for its innovative collaborations and politically charged reggaeton and also won record of the year.
After accepting the record of the year trophy for "No Hay Nadie Como Tu", Rene Perez, who raps as Residente, thanked his mother onstage, paid tribute to late Argentine singer Mercedes Sosa, and stayed true to his political songs such as "La Perla" by criticizing the Puerto Rican government.
Perez dedicated the award to Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa, who died on October 4, 2009 at the age of 74.
After winning the best album trophy for "Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo", Perez said, "We love Sosa very much. Her music will live forever. May she rest in peace. An applause for Mercedes Sosa, please".
Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa won folk album trophy for "Cantora 1".
The Latin Recording Academy also paid homage to Sosa with a brief video set to the gentle anthem "Gracias a la Vida".
Calle 13, whose other member is Perez's stepbrother Eduardo Cabra, also earned Latin Grammys for urban music album, alternative song and short video for "La Perla".
