Danny Boyle: Plans to film mountaineer's true story
Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle has announced that he is to make a film on the true story of American Mountain climber Aron Ralston, who hacked off his own arm with a penknife after he was trapped by a rock.
According to reports, the Slumdog Millioniare director has written the initial outline for the film '127 Hours' and now he is expected to reunite with Slumdog Millioniare scriptwriter Simon Beaufoy.
Boyle has confirmed plans to direct '127 Hours,' based on Ralston's extraordinary ordeal in Utah's Blue John Canyon in 2003, according to Variety.
The shooting of the film that will be backed by Fox Searchlight, is due to begin in March 2010 and it's release is due at the end of the year.
No actor has yet been confirmed to play the role of Ralston. But rumours suggest that Ryan Gosling , star of indie hit Lars and the Real Girl, is the current favourite.
Ralston's forearm was trapped under a boulder while he was climbing in Utah in 2003. In a desperate bid for survival for five days - during which time he resorted to drinking his own urine, he used a blunt knife and pliers to amputate his right forearm. He then had to scale down a 65ft drop with just one arm, to safety.
The mountaineer documented his experience in a book entitled Between a Rock and a Hard Place. He has also appeared on US talk shows and is now a corporate speaker.
Boyle scooped eight Oscars this year, including Best Picture and Best Director for Slumdog Millionaire.
